Another Stirlingshire county golf title comes to Glenbervie, this time courtesy of Iain Ross who won the 2017 county handicap championship. This year's county handicap championship was played at Glenbervie, with the strokeplay qualifying held on Sunday 9th July, followed by the matchplay finals the following weekend.
Shooting a gross 78, net 72, in the strokeplay, Iain finished in 5th place and was one of the 8 qualifiers for the matchplay part of the event. The quarter-finals were played on Saturday 15th July, in torrential rain, and Iain beat Tom McDonald of Bonnybridge GC by 2 holes. The semi final and final were both played on Sunday 16th July, when thankfully the weather was a bit kinder. Iain beat Jeff Elgie of Falkirk Tryst 4&3 in the morning semi-fiinal, and then beat Colin Ferguson of Stirling GC 2&1 in the final. Given that Iain was giving shots to all his matchplay opponents, and with Colin Ferguson being the top seed for the matchplay, this was a great performance by Ian over the matchplay weekend. Many congratulations to Ian on his great win.
